Long Runs, Birthday Parties, and Baby Swim Hour
This past weekend was jam packed with family time and training. Two things I love! During my last marathon training cycle, my long runs left me pretty pooped out on Saturdays. I mostly slept and ate and then slept some more. It made me feel unproductive (even though I had run 15-20 miles).
This training cycle has felt different. I end my long runs and want to do more. I feel like my body has finally adjusted to the stress and physical requirements of marathon training, which is exciting. This past Saturday, I found enough energy to finish 16 miles at 8:08 pace and attend my first yoga class in over a year. It was crazy tough, but my hips were smiling the rest of the day. I'm definitely adding at least 1 yoga class a week to my training schedule.
Three hours of working out and I had to hit up Target to do some birthday shopping for my niece and nephews whose birthday party was that afternoon - yes, I am a huge procrastinator. By the time I was done at Target, it was 2 pm and the party started at 4. I had to shower, wrap gifts, and pack some clothes to stay at my mama's for the night. I showed up to the party at 5 and got to play with these beautiful little babies for a few hours. It was tons of fun and they have so much energy - I love it!
I was planning on hitting the Fullerton trails with my Dad on Sunday morning. He is running/walking his first half marathon next March with me (Go Dad!!), so I thought it would be nice to get him outside and run with him because he usually sticks to the treadmill. Sadly, we didn't make it to the trails because Daddio, my younger sister Kate, and I hit up The Twisted Vine - a cute little wine bar in downtown Fullerton. A bottle and a few more glasses later... and that 6 am wake up call was unwelcome. We decided to take a rest day, which was a little disappointing, but at least we had fun!
Sunday was so lazy! I stayed in my PJ's until almost noon. Whoops! I enjoy my fair share of vino - especially during the summer - but my late morning made me realize why I don't drink very much anymore. I spent Sunday afternoon hanging at the pool with the little ones to swim. It was a nice end to an eventful weekend. Back to the grind now!
How was your weekend? How'd your training go?
