2019 Is Finally Here - Goals for the New Year!
I have never been more happy to say goodbye to a year as I am to 2018. This year was ROUGH for me. It has been one of the most trying years physically, emotionally, and mentally. Despite how difficult it was, I still was able to accomplish a lot - although, I didn’t get to everything I wanted to.
I wanted to recap my 2018 goals and see where those went. I usually set 3 solid goals for myself and am ok with accomplishing 2 of 3, and this year I did just that, but not in the exact way I wanted to. Here’s a recap:
2018 Goals:
A Marathon PR - I got this at Eugene with a 7:29 PR and a 3:07 finish. My ultimate goal with this was to get a sub 3 in the fall at CIM, but this goal got sidelined by several things. First, I had a wedding to plan. In addition to that, my sister was getting married the weekend of CIM and my coaching business took off and took up a lot of my free time that would’ve been dedicated to long runs and training. There was no time for another marathon, but in sacrificing the sub 3, I was able to accomplish another goal I set for myself.
Grow My Business - The huge goal was to take my coaching business and make it a full time gig. I worked my behind off in 2018 and sacrificed my running goals and personal life to accomplish this. I’m happy to say that starting February 2019, I will be a full time coach and CEO of Sugar Runs LLC.
Improve My Flexibility - this seemed like a throw in goal, but I really know that adding more stretching and yoga to my life will not only calm my mind, but enhance my running. I gave up on this goal pretty quick considering I had to sacrifice running a lot in 2018 as well.
2018 was still such a great year for me. While I’m excited to start fresh, I can’t forget all that I did accomplish: I married my man; watched my sister marry the love of her life; watched numerous athletes grow and expand their potential, hit amazing PRs, and crush serious goals; got to travel to Mexico twice for actual vacations; realized that sometimes it’s ok to step back from running and say no.
So what are my 2019 goals??
Sub 3 Marathon
Surprised? I’m getting back to the marathon distance finally. It’s been a rough go already trying to get back to training after our wedding. I got hit with bronchitis this week and am just trying to figure out how to reintroduce lots of mileage on my legs after being at a weekly average of 30 for the last 8 months. I know this will be tough, but I’ve got 2 seasons to go after it.
Enhance My Business
Earlier this fall, I sent out a survey to my athletes to get a sense of how we were performing and what they were interested in seeing more of. I was ecstatic to receive overwhelmingly positive feedback, but my athletes had a desire for other supplementary services to be added, and I’m excited to announce some new offerings in 2019 that will enhance our coaching and help our athletes even more on their journey to becoming better runners. I’ll be sharing new things in our newsletter as they happen, so please feel free to sign up if you’d like to be among the first to hear about them!
Vlogging
Yep, trying to get more into videos! I’m shy AF, but I’ve found that its much easier to explain how to use your Garmin or do strides in a video than in a blog post. I’m excited to create and share more videos this year and hopefully reach and help more people figure out this running thing and how to make their training more effective. If there’s anything you’d like to see in a video or vlog, please let me know in the comments below.
I can’t wait for the new year and all the potential it holds. I’m not big on resolutions or thinking that a new year means a new you. I’m more into the idea of setting new goals and getting more uncomfortable. That’s where we grow. Excited to keep growing.
